Summary of the project "Inclusive education for children with disabilities and prevention and response to climate change in Hau Giang province"

Provincial Department of Education and Training; Provincial Women's Union; The People's Committee of Vi Thanh City, the Union of Friendship Organizations of Hau Giang Province and the Norwegian Mission Alliance in Vietnam held a summary of activities in 2021 and signed the project in 2022.
Attending were Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan, Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations; Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations; Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Deputy Director of Provincial Department of Education and Training; Ms. Do Thi Bich Phuong, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union; Mr. Jan Schroder, Director of the Norwegian Mission Alliance in Vietnam, and representatives of the subcommittees of the project "Inclusive education for children with disabilities and prevention and response to climate change in Hau Giang province", along with project beneficiaries.
The project is implemented in the period 2019-2022, with a total cost of 400,000 USD. After 3 years of implementation, the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations highly appreciates the project for supporting children and young people with disabilities in Hau Giang province to be integrated through raising awareness of the community; supporting livelihoods to adapt to climate change in communes; women training and action education groups. Piloting in Vi Tan commune, Hoa Tien commune, Tan Tien commune and 8 kindergartens and primary schools in Vi Thanh city, the project has brought practical effects, contributing to economic development - local society.
Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, said that, despite the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Norwegian Mission Alliance has closely coordinated with local leaders to deploy components to support local people timely. Norwegian Mission Alliance and localities have been proactive and active in changing the form of implementation of project activities from face-to-face to online or following video tutorials; shift budget from training to purchase of equipment, books, toys, teaching aids for schools and try to complete important activities.

Discussion, closely coordination, and exchange information smoothly between the Norwegian Mission Alliance staff and partners continue during the implementation of project activities. There is monitoring and supervision from the leaders of the Project Management Board to check and evaluate the work progress and promptly overcome difficulties, demonstrating the sense of responsibility and ownership of the project. The partner proactively comes up with alternative proposals suitable to the needs of the local beneficiaries (building toilets, library support). The total project budget signed at the beginning of 2021 is more than 2.4 billion VND, used by the end of 2021 is more than 2.1 billion VND, reaching 85.9%.
Mr. Le Minh Tuan, wishes: 2022 is an important year, this is the year to end the components of the project in the period of 2019-2022; marked the development and changes at the project beneficiaries in the past time. The Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations wants to be a bridge between local leaders and the Norwegian Mission Alliance to implement projects in the coming time when the projects will be expanded to 8 districts, towns and cities of Hau Giang province.
Mr. Jan Schroder, Director of the Norwegian Mission Alliance in Vietnam, said that teachers at schools and school administrators actively participated in online training and development. For the groups of women, they shared their knowledge and experiences with the group members in climate change knowledge and action education methods that the staff received in the project.
Mr. Jan Schroder thanked the leaders and members of the Project Management Boards for their efforts to exchange, change and find many different solutions to carry out the project activities in the context of the pandemic. In the coming time, it will be training for people about skills to adapt to climate change. He hopes that, with strong cooperation, it is possible to carry out more effective activities and plan for the upcoming new period.
