Mr.Truong Canh Tuyen, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, has just had a meeting with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) on the climate change adaptation project in the Mekong Delta.
Through the exchange, in Hau Giang they will assist in formulating detailed project, environmental protection laws, setting prices for water supply and drainage service, urban wastewater treatment, training on drainage and anti-flooding, and sustainable drainage models. At the same time, support planning the areas with 8 focal centers including one fruit processing center located in Hau Giang. The project will also promote training, raising community awareness on natural disaster prevention; assist in development of plans for natural disaster prevention and each type of natural disasters response; assist in the dissemination and implementation of law documents on construction and management of disaster prevention funds; build a monitoring system for dikes and embankments; organize a forum to share experiences and knowledge on prevention develop new plans and projects.
In response to the goodwill of the working delegation, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Mr.Truong Canh Tuyen and departments and branches agreed to carry out detailed project construction in 2022 in Vi Thanh city and it will be replicated in Nga Bay city. In addition, Hau Giang also creates a clean land fund to call for businesses to invest in logistics systems, pay attention to regional linkages so that together with other provinces such as Kien Giang, Can Tho,.. which have a deep port system for transporting goods and agricultural products to many places, increasing the province’s economy.
It is known that the project “Adaption to climate change in the Mekong Delta” (MCRP, 2019 – 2025) has been co-funded by the Governments of Germany, Switzerland and Vietnam, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Construction, German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta. The objective of the project is to support Vietnamese management agencies to strengthen natural resource management to adapt to climate change in the coastal area of the Mekong Delta, towards sustainable development in region. Phase 1, the project has had three Kien Giang, An Giang and Ca Mau provinces participating in the project construction. Here, the provinces have been supported the development of plans to combat flooding, urban drainage and climate change. Phase 2, from 2023 – 2025, focuses on building anti-flood and climate change protection, with the goal of focusing on regional linkages.
