Vietnam is a Model of Effective Cooperation With UNESCO

The Deputy Minister appreciated the important role of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi.

Since its establishment in 1999, the office has been contributing to strongly promoting comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO in all fields under its jurisdiction.
He also commented that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the development and implementation of the action plan between Vietnam and UNESCO (period 2021-2025), as well as UNESCO's cooperative activities in Vietnam brought practical results and contributions.

They helped improve policies on education, science and culture, serving the country's socio-economic development.

The Deputy Minister said that in 2024 and the coming years, Vietnam is committed to continuing to actively and substantially participate in all UNESCO mechanisms of which Vietnam is a member.
He also expressed his desire to continue to receive support and assistance from UNESCO in comprehensively implementing the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, especially goals such as SDG-4 (Quality Education) and SDGs 13 (Action on Climate Change) and SDGs14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) as well as implementing commitments at COP-26.
Jonathan Wallace Baker, UNESCO's chief representative in Vietnam, expressed his gratitude for the Deputy Minister's warm and friendly welcome.

He conveyed the thanks and appreciation of Audrey Azoulay, director general of UNESCO, for Vietnam's practical and effective contributions to UNESCO in important issues of the Organization recently.

Jonathan Wallace Baker reiterated the General Director's comment "Vietnam is a model of effective cooperation with UNESCO."
He also congratulated on the achievements that Vietnam has achieved in 2023 with four titles recognized.

Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Island was added to the World Heritage List. The two cities of Da Lat and Hoi An joined UNESCO's Creative Cities Network and UNESCO issued a resolution to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the death of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac.
Vietnam was also elected as a member of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-2027 term with high number of votes.
Jonathan Wallace Baker, chief representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, appreciated the achievements that Vietnam gained. He emphasized the effective cooperation model between the UNESCO Office in Vietnam, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, ministries, branches and localities in implementing UNESCO's professional activities in Vietnam.

He also emphasized the cooperation and role of Vietnam as one of the leading countries in developing and implementing all 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, participating in global initiatives, and launching many initiatives.
Vietnam made many important contributions to international efforts to preserve international peace and security, respond to climate change, and ensure human rights.

Jonathan Wallace Baker affirmed that he will continue to support Vietnam's efforts in implementing the United Nations' Sustainable Development goals, especially Vietnam's initiatives in professional activities under the authority of UNESCO.

He also pledged to coordinate closely with Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities in activities to preserve and promote heritage values, sustainable development of biosphere reserves and global geoparks in Vietnam.
