The opening session took place on the morning of May 30, 2025, at the Dunhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center. It was attended by many high-ranking leaders, experts, scholars and international and Chinese delegates including Han Zheng, Vice President of China; Liu Jianchao, Head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China; Dithapelo Keorapetse, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Botswana; Sommad Pholsena, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos; Bidya Devi Bhandari, former President of Nepal; and representatives of the Gansu provincial government (Hu Changsin, Secretary of the Gansu Party Committee, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Gansu People's Congress) and the China International Exchange Association (Ge Bingxian, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress of China, Chairman of the China International Friendship Association).
Speaking at the opening session, Han Zheng emphasized the role of cultural exchange, people-to-people exchange, and the blending of national spirit with human spirit, combining traditional cultural inspiration with long history and science and technology to realize the dream of conquering new heights for humanity.
The Opening Program also includes specialized speeches and art performances themed "From Mogao Caves to Space Station". They reflect the remarkable development journey of Chinese civilization and the aspiration to connect humanity through the ages, and convey the message of solidarity, equality, and unity to implement the Global Civilization Initiative, towards a community of harmonious, altruistic, and sustainably developed civilizations.
First held in 2019, the Dialogue is a forum for scholars, policy makers, cultural figures, historical researchers, and people's organizations from all countries to share views, enhance understanding, promote altruism, and work towards building a harmonious and sustainable community of civilizations.
