Pham Dinh Thuong, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Saitama (Japan) discusses the role and contributions of the Vietnamese community in Saitama Prefecture.

- What outstanding activities has the Vietnamese Association in Saitama, Japan had recently?

Vietnamese Association in Saitama is a non-profit organization established in 2021 to connect Vietnamese citizens currently living and working in Saitama Prefecture. The association aims to gather and support the Vietnamese community in the area. At the same time, we want to spread the beauty of Vietnamese culture to international friends.
Although newly established, the Association has had many practical and outstanding activities such as the "Hello Saitama" Festival and "Spring in the Homeland" in Tokyo in 2023.

In particular, the “Hello Saitama” Festival attracted 100,000 participants and was highly appreciated by the local authorities. The festival promotes Vietnamese culture to the Japanese, strengthening people-to-people exchange and business cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

At the festival, Japanese people experienced unique Vietnamese culture such as making star lanterns, creating Dong Ho paintings, watching karate and vovinam performances, and listening to Quan Ho singing. The organizers also arranged a space to display photos of the homeland's sea and islands, thereby helping the large Vietnamese community in Japan raise awareness of protecting territorial sovereignty and national pride.

In addition, to support the F2 generation born in Japan, we also organize free Vietnamese language and culture classes for Vietnamese children from 4 to 11 years old.

The Association is proud of the activities and cultural and spiritual values it has carried out in the past time to spread the good traditional cultural values of the Vietnamese people to Japanese people and international friends.

-How do local authorities evaluate the position and role of the Vietnamese community in Saitama province?

In the coming time, we will continue to organize music events, bringing Vietnamese artists to perform for Vietnamese people, and promoting Vietnamese culture closer to the locals and the Vietnamese community in Japan.
We will implement a program to transport students to the learning center, helping poor families maintain their children's Vietnamese language learning. The Association has worked with the wards, communes, departments, and branches of the province to discuss the issue of disseminating Japanese law to the Vietnamese people in the province. It is known that the Saitama provincial government has decided to publish a handbook on Japanese law entirely in Vietnamese to help the Vietnamese community live and work better and better in Japan.

In August 2024, the Association will coordinate with units to organize the program "Aspiration for Peace" in Quang Tri, to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs at Quang Tri Citadel. This program shows gratitude and honors the great contributions of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed to gain independence for the nation.
