On March 24 in Hanoi, Ambassador Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko, along with his spouse, hosted a reception to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (January 30, 1950 - January 30, 2025).

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and Deputy Minister of National Defense; as well as leaders from various ministries, departments, and branches.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son highlighted that on January 30, 1950, the Soviet Union (now the Russian Federation) was one of the first nations to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. He emphasized that over the past 75 years, despite numerous challenges, Vietnam and the Soviet Union have maintained a steadfast relationship founded on sincerity, mutual respect, loyalty, and unwavering support.

The Party, State, and people of Vietnam deeply cherish the unwavering support of the Soviet Union and the Russian people in the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, and the nation’s efforts in protection, construction, and development. Over the past 75 years, the strong bond nurtured by successive generations of leaders and citizens has fostered the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation. This enduring relationship continues to yield significant achievements, honoring its historic legacy and paving the way for a new era to meet the demands of the times.

The political ties between the two nations are marked by a high level of trust, demonstrated through frequent exchanges and engagements across all levels—especially at the highest echelons—via Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and people-to-people channels. High-level visits and agreements reached during these interactions not only steer the development of Vietnam-Russia relations in the future but also lay a solid foundation for deep and substantive bilateral cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that the solidarity, closeness, and cooperation fostered over generations of leaders and citizens in Vietnam and Russia have remained steadfast through changing times. He expressed confidence and hope that 2025 would mark a significant milestone in the continued and thriving development of relations between the two nations. Vietnam and the Russian Federation will work together to further their traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation, fulfilling the aspirations and interests of both peoples, while promoting peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Ambassador Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko reflected on the enduring journey of Vietnam-Russia relations over the past 75 years, highlighting the mutual support and solidarity of the two nations during the most challenging times. He underscored that the sincere affection and friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Russia have built a solid foundation for deeper bilateral cooperation across all sectors. Strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries aims to meet the aspirations of their citizens and contribute to peace, security, and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
